The story behind the score
Vivaldi wrote The Four Seasons around vivid scenes from nature – birdsong and summer storms, harvest celebrations, icy winds and the stillness of winter.
4 Seasons Explained takes these stories into a new symphonic adaptation, using the full colour of the orchestra to bring them to life.
Expanded winds and brass, together with instruments such as wind machine and thunder sheet, give new voice to the world Vivaldi described — from birds and gentle breezes to violent storms and the freezing winds of winter.
Rather than changing Vivaldi’s music, the new adaptation magnifies what is already there, using the scale, colour and cinematic power of a full symphony orchestra to make the story within the score even more vivid.
